There are quite a few shows taped in New York City, such as “The Jerry Springer Show”. “Good Morning America” and “Maury’s Show” and in most cases you can easily get tickets to sit in the audience and be part of the action. While New York City is a hotbed of activity and sites, visiting one of many taped television shows is an excellent way to be part of the TV experience.

The NBC Today Show

The NBC Today Show has been on air for over 50 years and is one of the longest running TV shows on American television. Broadcast from 7 to 10am in the morning, the show fulfills a distinct time slot for most Americans, often providing the entertainment for their daily commute. The first episode aired January 14, 1952 and was hosted by radio personality Dave Garroway used to be only two hours. Since then the show has featured a number of well known host personalities, such as Barbara Walters (1966 to 1976) and Bryant Gumbel (1982 to 1997), among others. In 2007, the show was extended to four hours and averaged 5,998,000 million viewers. Since the shows inception, it has been taped in New York City, in the Rockefeller Center. Shows are taped Monday through Friday at 7am.

Seeing the Show

Unfortunately, the show does not have a studio audience, so you cannot get tickets. But fans and interested audiences are invited to line-up around the Rockefeller Center to see the action take place outside. If you arrive early enough you just might find yourself on TV.

Late Show

Late Show With David Letterman

The hour-long talk show first aired in 1993 after Letterman left NBC to join CBS. Since the beginning the show has featured regulars like Paul Shaffer, who head the CBS orchestra. Airing at around 11:35pm, the show is actually recorded during the late afternoon, from Monday to Thursday. The show features regular interviews with actors, musicians, politicians and popular culture icons. Ranking second in cumulative viewers over time, the show is a good late afternoon activity for anyone visiting the New York area.

Seeing The Show

Tapings for the show take place at 1697 Broadway in downtown New York. Mondays, the show is taped at either 4:30pm and 7pm. Tuesdays and Wednesdays the show is taped at 5:30pm and Thursdays at 4:30pm. Tickets are free, but should be booked one to three months in advance to ensure they are available. Standby entry is also available is rated.

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart

Daily Show

If you enjoy a comedic look at the political machine then the daily show is for you. The show has been around since 1996, but was taken over in 1999 by Jon Stewart. It involves sharp political satire aimed at politicians and the media. Jon Stewart has openly criticized the president and has held interviews with political candidates. Evolving into a fixture on late night TV, the show attracts viewers from all backgrounds.

Seeing The Show

The show is taped four nights a week, from Monday to Thursday in Midwest New York City. Tickets should be requested 2 to 6 weeks in advance for specific dates, although you can try to get into the studio on standby. Each episode is filmed at Image Group Production Center (733 11th Avenue)
