Fragrance Lamps
Fragrance Lamps
Do you notice a lingering smell in your house that won’t go away even after cleaning the space from top to bottom? Chances are you have small children, a pet or combination of both. While it is embarrassing when you have guests over, you can easily install some scented fragrance lamps, which should help to mask any odor and leave your house smelling fresh and welcoming.
How They Work
Fragrance lamps come in plain or decorative bottles and contain scented oil. The oils come in a wide variety of different scents, such as lilac to lavender. The oil sits in the bottle and gently releases a light fragrance, which fills the space your bottle is in. Most bottles have a small cap at the top with small holes to allow the scent to be released. Overtime, the oil will deplete and require you to refill it again. You can always change the oil in your fragrance lamp to another scent, depending on your preference. Oil refills can be bought either online or through your local perfumery.
Making Your Own
While most people choose to buy a fragrance lamp set from a retailer, it is just as simple to make your own and buy the oil separately. All you need for this is a small glass bottle; a top/cap that you can make some holes into and some paint that can cover the glass. The first step is to make some holes using either a screw or nail into the cap of the bottle. After making a few incisions in the bottle cap, set it aside for later. Now you can start painting the bottle and choose a design that fits your décor or style. If you want to make the fragrance lamp seasonal then consider adding a decorative bow to accent your newly finished piece. When you have finished decorating the lamp, add the oil and voila, you have your very own personalized fragrance lamp.
Safety
Fragrance lamps are relatively save for families with small children, but should be kept out of reach. If the oil does accidentally get into your eye, it will cause an irritation. If someone in your household has allergies then consider visiting a perfumery or fragranced oil shop and see if it irritates them before buying. Also, don’t try making the oil on your own because mixing the wrong oils together can create a noxious irritant. Stick to store bought fragrance oils for your fragrance lamp.
